town from 1800s

It all started back in 1864 when 28-year-old German immigrant Andrew Krempp, Sr., moved to the United States. Andrew eventually settled into the materials and construction businesses, beginning with road construction and general supply in 1877. His son Andrew B. Krempp soon followed, and quickly became known as a pioneer in the construction field, building most of the area’s first rock roads. The building materials and construction company opened in the early 1900′s and operated as Traylor & Krempp. In 1918, Andrew B. Krempp acquired Traylor’s equity in the company, and was joined by son Edwin in 1923. They formally incorporated as The Krempp Lumber Company in 1928.
Throughout the latter 1900′s, under the leadership of Edwin’s sons Ken and Stan, various businesses, from construction and supply to manufacturing, were founded through The Krempp Lumber Company. Most notable was Stan’s establishment of a cabinet manufacturing company that began as United Cabinet Corporation. The business grew rapidly and became known as Aristokraft Cabinetry. Aristokraft exists today as one of the premiere brands sold under the Masterbrand Cabinets umbrella – the #1 cabinet manufacturer in the country, which is still headquartered in Jasper, IN.

For more than 30 years while the UCC was developing and growing, Kenny Krempp continued to build a reputation for quality products, dependable service and honest construction under the company we know today as The Krempp Lumber Company. Eventually Kenny passed the business on to his sons Andy, John, and Bill. Along with retail supply store, the construction portion of the business continued to grow and evolve into a general construction company focusing on large institutional and commercial projects. In 2010, the construction company was officially separated into Krempp Construction Inc., while the Retail Home Center still operates under The Krempp Lumber Company.  In 2015, long-time General Manager, Mark Schneider officially retired after 40 years of service with the Lumber Company and Home Center.  Brady Albright took over in 2015, and currently resides as the General Manager.  Today, both Krempp companies proudly operate under the guidance of their 5th and 6th generations and work diligently to maintain their long-standing reputation.

While Andy, John, and Bill are actively involved in both companies today, they each have a son working along with them.  Tyler, Alex, and Matt have joined the family construction business over the last few years becoming the 6th generation to work in the Krempp family business.
In an era where big box stores and internet ordering are fluent, Krempp Lumber continues to prove that small businesses can still thrive and provide competitive pricing in the construction and retail industry.  We pride ourselves on providing superior customer service along with high quality products at competitive prices.  We accomplish these 3 goals, while maintaining focus on our employees, their families, and giving back to our local community and beyond.
